Delicious Thai cuisine – Enjoy delicious and authentic Thai food from the colorful street carts near the university or sample some inside any number of local restaurants nearby. Food in Thailand will be relatively cheap, so don't worry too much about your budget. We will take you to the Sunday market so you can try making your own Thai dishes.
A perfect location in Chiang Mai - The CMU campus is located in central Chiang Mai, perfect for you to explore in your free time. It was actually ranked as the world's number two city. The city isn't oo big, but boasts a fun culture, a rich history, and some of the best nightlife around. Learn to cook Thai food, ride elephants, visit hill tribe villages, and so much more!
Local excursions and adventures – Enjoy various excursions during your summer stay in Thailand including treks to nearby hill tribe villages, bamboo rafting, riding elephants, and more! We will be visiting waterfalls, temples, markets, and many other points of interest.
You will take courses at Chiang Mai University (CMU), one of Thailand’s top universities. CMU offers programs instructed in English for international students interested in learning about local Thai topics. Summer in Thailand students take 2 courses during this 4 week program. All students will take basic Thai language lessons, with a focus on culture. Additionally, they will choose one of three elective courses. Classes are experiential and enhanced with excursions and activities designed to deepen the understanding of Thai culture. Learn Thai, immerse yourself in the language, culture and history and choose from classes on Buddhism, Gender in Southeast Asia, or International Finance.
• Practice your Thai with other international students as well as with the locals living in Chiang Mai
• Take classes in Gender Studies, Buddhism, and Thai culture
• Participate in local excursions including visiting markets, riding elephants, and more
• Enjoy Chiang Mai's warm climate, breathtaking scenery, and laidback atmosphere
CISabroad students enjoy support from dedicated CISabroad staff. Activities are scheduled throughout the program, including a comprehensive orientation in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, local excursions to surrounding areas of interest, and cultural activities. Classes will often involve experiential components, taking students to temples, galleries, and other places throughout the city to relay relevant material in-person.
CISabroad students enjoy a Thai cooking class, elephant ride, trekking into Hill Tribe communities, visiting markets, and more! During your short time in Thailand, you can expect to see and do more than you imagined to ensure you get the most out of your experience.

You will be living in beautiful and centrally located guest rooms a quick walk from the Old City of Chiang Mai. With over 700 years of history, the Old City is the very center of Chiang Mai, and there are many beautiful temples and exciting markets to explore close by.
You will live in a shared suite with a shared room, free internet access, and air conditioning. There is a pool in the building and a restaurant and massage studio on the main floor. Living in the Old City will give you a better insight into Thai culture, especially because you will be living within walking distance to the Sunday Walking Street, Night Bazaar, and Tha Pae Gate.
The university is a 15 minute bus ride away, and from your central location, you can walk or bike all over this moderately-sized town.

If needed, students are able to work with financial aid to help with the cost of the program. Scholarships are also available.
Out of Pocket Expenses
Students will be responsible for purchasing their own airfare. Flights will be discussed at length during orientation.
The estimate for spending money will vary greatly depending on personal spending habits. Personal expenses include personal items, additional personal travel, meals, shopping, and other activities. Students should consider their individual spending habits when estimating their personal expenses for the program.
