Program Description:

GermanyProgram Overview

This program takes place in the city of Reutlingen, located in southwestern Germany. Reutlingen is home to Reutlingen University and headquarters for a number of engineering companies (Bosch Automotive Electronics, Wafios, Burkhardt+Weber). The program includes excursions to regional engineering businesses, castles, historic places (Dachau) and a weekend in Munich. There is also one free weekend where you can travel wherever you want in Europe!

This 1.5 credit experience offers an engineering class that will fulfill a graduation requirement for engineering students. Students will enroll in GE 312 - Ethical Decisions in Engineering.


Program dates are May 31, 2018 - June 23, 2018 - please note the group departs the US May 31 and will arrive in Germany June 1.

Germany 2Application Requirements

Students must have at least junior standing by the time of the program. Sophomores interested in applying will need the approval of their department chair.

The deadline to apply for the Summer 2018 program will be March 1, 2018. Applications will be reviewed by the Program Leader alongside the Office of International Programs study abroad staff after the deadline has passed. Once a decision has been made, applicants will be notified via their Valpo e-mail.

Cost Information

Students will pay tuition at the summer per-credit rate for the course as well as the program fee. The program fee including tuition is currently estimated at $2,750 but could change based on how many students participate in the program. A final program fee will be shared at the time of acceptance based on up-to-date information and the final number of participants in the program.

The program fee includes:
  • Private group airport transfers
  • In-country transportation to itinerary items
  • Group welcome and farewell dinners
  • Shared housing in dormitories - 2 persons per room with separate beds
  • All group excursions and entrance fees 
Note: International airfare and passport fees and personal spending amounts are not included. See Budget Sheet above for full cost estimates.
**The first ten students to submit a complete application will receive a $500 award toward their tuition fee from the College of Engineering, contingent upon official acceptance into the program.

Apply for a Passport

Passports need to be valid for at least six months past the program’s end date. As part of the application, students must upload a copy of a valid passport, or a receipt or similar proof that the student has submitted a passport application.
